There is a small airport in Tartu but you are more likely to find suitable flights to Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, which is 180km from Tartu. There is a frequent bus service directly from the Tallinn Airport (Tallinna lennujaam in Estonian) to Tartu, the tickets are 10,80 EUR for adults and 9,70 EUR for people under 27. Our volunteers will be at the airport to meet you and will help you find your way. The main bus terminal in Tartu is right next to the accommodation. If you are unable to find suitable flights to either Tartu or Tallinn you may want to consider flying to Riga and then take a bus to to get to Tartu (see below for more information).
From Tallinn: buses leave Tallinn bus terminal towards Tartu every 30 minutes, it takes about two and a half hours to reach Tartu. The main bus terminal in Tartu is right next to the accommodation. From Tallinn: Trains for Tartu from Tallinn train station leave 3-4 times a day, and it takes a little more than two hours to get to Tartu. The train station in Tartu is about 30 minute walk from the accommodation. For full details see Elron website.
From your home country: currently there no international trains to Tartu.
Citizens from most of the European countries and many countries from all over the world do not need a visa to travel to Estonia. For the full list please visit Ministry of Foreign Affairs' website. The unit of currency in Estonia is the Euro (EUR). Foreign currency can easily be exchanged at the airport or at one of the many exchange bureaus around Tartu. Also there are plenty of ATMs available for cash withdrawals (but please check with your bank concerning fees). Both debit and credit cards are widely used in Estonia at most hotels, restaurants, museums, and retail stores. All major credit cards are accepted, including VISA, MasterCard, American Express.
